I have searched for the answer to this question, but can't find it.

I need to source a right rear brake caliper for my EF wagon, and need to know which other models use the same calipers. I suspect that EL wagons are identical, but what about EF/EL sedans or even AU1s with live axle?

Can I use a left side caliper just by swapping the hose and bleed nipple around? Or are there internal differences too?

I stripped the threads out where the brake hose connects. If I can't find the right caliper, is it safe (and leak-free) to helicoil (thread insert) it?

Appreciate any help you guys and gals can provide.

Thanks.

All EF/EL use the same rear caliper, you can use wagon or sedan, or fairlane. EA - ED were different.

Thanks very much. That will make it much easier to find one.

Series 1 AU is the same too on a live axle.

Hey, thanks for all the help. Have found one, and am putting new seals in now.

Cheers

Also I don't think you can swap calipers to opposite sides.
From memory I think the bleeder hole has a countersunk section at the bottom, whereas the fluid in is just a threaded hole.
If you can, have a look and confirm back here.

EDIT: Just thought too - the bleeder would then be below the fluid in, as well.

Just looking at the caliper, I can see that the bleeder and hose bolt cannot interchange, as the surface has been machined differently, and the hose will not seat flush (ie, not seal) if you try to bolt it to the bleeder hole.
