In saying that does that mean a high torque crowcam that comes on at 900rpm and stops at I think 3500 would be a bit pointless considering my flash stall is at about 1600rpm. I'm keeping my rpm down so low atm due to Christmas and I can't afford to be driving hard and fast. I usually floor it at the lights and by the time I come off the throttle I'm still in first and have hit about 60km/h. I want a good cam and I'm thinking a cms atm due to having a spare stock cam lying around.

the crow cam you mention is a towing or torque cam so its kinda different as that's what the cam is made for , the cms cams are still a drivable cam but the power range of there cams are more power orientated and the power band is still higher than std, so to get or feel the gains you want you will have to rev it more than 2500-4500rpm..
or to put it another way.. you wont notice any power gain under 2500rpm using a performance orientated cam, its always a trade off what you gain at one rpm you will loose at another... |

It is the grind of the cam that effects the performance, not if it is a regrind or a billet. Advantage of a billet cam is that you don't need additional shims. You can get cams reground so that they will "come in" lower in the rev range but the trade off is that they "run out" of power earlier in the rev range. Factory "XR" Cam's "come in" at around 2100rpm, CMS Stage 2 is at around 2200rpm up through the rev range. |

So next question is which cam should I get from cms a stage 2a or a stage 3? I'm not sure on which one will suit me or my application. |

Stage 3 "comes in" later, approx 2600rpm through to the end. Stage 3 really needs head work to achieve its best and will also need ISC & TPS Mods. You will need Valve spring upgrades for both of the cams. 2A requires at least XR6 Springs. If you want a cam that will perform lower in the rev range then you won't need a Stage 3. |

Can i use a vernier cam gear in a vct motor? most that I have looked up don't say or specify non vct. Is there a specific vernier cam gear for vct motors ?

Sorry should have been more descriptive. How do I dial a cam in with a vernier gear if I get one? What's the worst that could happen if I don't use one?

You set it to the setting advised by the cam manufacturer and go from there. You can do further adjustments off the Dyno but usually the specification supplied by the cam manufacturer is correct. If you don't use a vernier gear, then why bother fitting a cam. Using the vernier gear will get the best from the cam. |

Ah ok ill grab one then. So is it possible to change the gear and springs with the head on? Also I have a 94DA head that is untouched (it's 106mm high and it's come of the motor for the first time) should I use this one instead of my 3.9 head?
