Hey guys, the previous owner bodged this line up, but it is well and truly gone, now. It's hanging on by a thread. Just curious if the top part that looks metal is seperate from the rest of the hose?
Here are some pics. This is the part I'm talking about Does the top metal part stop there, or does it continue the whole way through the hose, all the way down to here Also, my altenator that just failed had a TON of grease all over it. Could this be why it failed? I'm assuming the grease is from the PS fluid. Cheers

this post from Papa Smurf helped me when i bought a new PS pump with new o-ring and it leaked like all hell
and yes, alternators and oil dont mix Quote: Matey, you SHOULD buy a NEW adaptor nut part number BA 3F656 B $11.20 and yes, the OLD one MUST be cut off the High Pressure pipe. Either clamp the nut and hose in a vice and carefully hacksaw the OLD not off or get a Nut Cracker, if you don't feel confident enough, have someone do it for you.
A NEW hose is the same for ALL AUs and to me that would be a thing of last resort. If it ISN'T leaking from the rubber hose itself I would not be replacing it. The NEW nut for the end of the pipe SHOULD be enough to fix your leak. |

You can buy an aftermarket version of the hose that doesn't use the leak prone nut assembly.
It's a third the cost of the genuine item. Any Auto pro, Auto one, Supercheap ect, should be able to get it for you. |

From the picture, it looks like the hose has been butched...I suggest you get a new HP line. I got mine from Ford for my EL (I assume they are similar to the AU) for $80...can be had for cheaper I assume from power steering specialists or what tickford_6 suggested.
If it's anything like the EF/EL...then the big golden/copper looking nut (the adapter) won't be used with the newly designed hose (EF/EL factory hoses had a union join which was prone to leaking...so new hoses have the union join removed).

Ash wrote: Its a sealed pressurised line so you need to replace the line itself, not part of. OK mate, cheers. I have a $110 credit at the wreckers, I wonder if I could get a line, and a power window mechanism for this much?

If you DO buy a second hand one, you would be well advised to change the nut at the end for a BA type, they are much better. Part number is BA 3F656 B $12.80 from your local Ford dealer.

I'm gunna put some form of tray underneath the PS pump to divert the fluid away from the alternator and when the time comes, I will use the BA nut. You're a wealth of info Papa Smurf, thanks heaps mate.

See attached question.
Just checked my PS and its empty Did a bit of research, and found it common for these to leak so before I go and fill her up do i need a new hose or just the nut? As per the below pic, it seems to be leaking from around the top. Also found this website http://www.ultimatepowersteering.com.au/ford-falcon-au/
