going to do a cooling service on a ef Fairmont and going to change from tectaloy 60 to techtaloy 90 which is for towing and high loads but need to ask following

1. whats chance of water pump being ok and will it need replacing (currently doesn't leak out seal and doesn't seem to be much play on pulley if any) checked brand and seems to be a gmb, got car in 2012 and haven't done anything to water pump

2. what thermostat is better and what model thermostat and what brand and would a high flow be better

3. whats needed to be done to thermostat so the gauge doesn't fluctuate or go up when restarting and going back to normal.

4. put a secondhand 3 core radiator in that hasent leaked and didn't look very old not sure of brand (is standard 91 deg thermostat ok with that, would prefer to run around factory temp for fuel efficiency)

5. how much better would a 88 deg thermostat compared to 92 deg, found that a 82 deg is too cold and uses heaps more fuel,

6. whats max temp it should run, and what needs to be done to keep it below half even going up a steep hill, have a auto cooler that no longer goes through radiator

A) As you have said, you have checked there are no leaks and no play so the only way to check it is pull it off. If you do that, then you may as well replace it. If the car has run coolant all the time then the pump shoud be OK.

A) Tridon are good brand. Hi flow is good.

A) The fluctuation of the gauge is caused by the engine warming up and then the thermostat opening, allowing the coolant to cool, causing the gauge to drop. On a cold day, you can see this happen often as the coolant drops below the Thermostat temp.

A) Not sure what you question is about the radiator but just give it a good flush, Use the 91 temp for the thermostat.

A) You just asked the question above.

A) That depends on conditions, towing, up hill, ambient temp, air flow. 91deg thermostat starts to open around that point and is fully open at around 104deg.
Ensure that the radiator fins are clear and also check that the AC condensor fins are clear as air needs to flow through there to get to your radiator. Check that you thermo fans are working correctly.

I wouldn't use Tectaloy if you gave it to me.
I use Repco coolant...it has about 1060 grms per litre of Glycol.
I think Tectaloy 90+ has only 360 grms per litre.
The Repco stuff comes in Anti-freeze, Anti-boil too, as a concentrate.
I towed a Car trailer from here to Geelong, picked up a car, and towed it back to here....summer time too.....never had a problem.

if a car had faded paint or a dent or if a power window didnt work or it looked a little rough or it had something minor wrong that didnt affect safety or if a door trim didnt have all screws but held on ok or just something minor is that a defect
