Hi everyone ive been chasing a jerkiness motion in my ED on this thread
gearbox-suspension-brake-driveline-f4/low-speed-jerkiness-after-manual-conversion-t128074.html ive also been reading other peoples threads and have come to the conclusion that its possibly my aux shaft and/or dissy. my car still has a genuine ford dissy in it (who knows could of been 2nd hand at some stage) ive pulled the dissy out and taken photos of it and the aux shaft, there are no teeth missing but the if definatly some marking on the aux shaft. ive put up pictures sorry if there a bit crummy, the dog thinks it may be the aux shaft. im going to try and make a decision about it this weekend do I keep spending money on this car or bite the bullet part it out and get something newer and more reliable thanks everyone

1st off i will say i'm NOT an expert on this problem
'markings' are normal .... it's when it becomes "wear" that there is a problem. is there 'slop' when turning the dizzie by hand? [there is always 'some' play] anyway ..... some of our local experts WILL hopefully catchup & confirm OR shoot me down |

there is a bit of slop when turning by hand but really it seems minimal.
the thing that really made me think it is with the timing light on it, warm a/c off and hold the revs at a steady 2000rpm it moves advanced and retarded about 10degrees its really erratic

Yep strayed a can of carby cleaner around checking.
I did an intake gasket about 6 months ago and did the map sensor hose a couple of weeks ago. I cant hear any hissing. Could it be a shagged map sensor?

Nah havnt replaced isc. Ive given it a good clean out and blow out with air.
I bought a map sensor at the local wrecker for $10 at first i thought it fixed it.but i waited a day just in case it was the placebo effect . Unfortunately it still does it. I think im gona use the xmas break to put the auto back in. I could never feel it with the auto but now with the direct drive of the manual it annoys me so much i cant stand it. The money i spent on the manual conversion. Buying a new clutch. Cable.bushes etc etc etc i could of had my auto rebuild.it makes me a bit sick when i think of the waste of money.o well.another one of lifes lessons. Anyone want to buy a t5 conversion. Clutch n cable have done less than 3000km since new. I know there is an issue with the engine and i dont want to band aid it with the auto i just want it fixed. Ive spent so much money on the ed i need to keep it or im flushing hundreds if not thousand down the toilet. Thanks

My ED does the jerky thing when idling through a car park...I just push the clutch in, blip the throttle, and it settles and all is good.

My EA manual doesn't jerk at all.
A couple of comments: - no, 10 degrees variation in timing is not normal however make sure you are doing it per manual procedures and car is in correct mode (then you know it's base timing only) - jerkiness can also be caused by clutch springs and plate wear - yes its a money pit but do it once it's done! I did more on my EA now it's a bloody good car. I'd also suggest putting car into diagnostic mode and check for codes. The time I had jerky driveability etc it was reported by EEC4 as HEGO (O2) sensor and it was 100% right. New part car was like a new one.
