Hi folks,

I've been wondering what the purple wire with white trace is for in the ba/bf ignition wiring from the keybarrel. Looking inside the keybarrel, it looks like its supposed to feed a negative out when the key is in the starter position, though the few I tested appeared to have stopped doing that.
The FG column has an orange/white wire on it that does the same thing and the one I tested with my multimeter actually did feed out a negative when in the starter position.

The AU2 I tested also had this same design only the wire on the au ignition was green.

Anyone know what this design is for? Most of the au/ba/bf columns are not correctly feeding the earth out on start anymore. So I'd like to know what that is effecting.

Regards

Franki

is that on pin 14 of the column plug? im looking in the haynes manuel shows that as a switched grounded/ bridged on start, dont tell me what it does but goes to terminal B2 on the cluster. manuel shows it as a orange output black from groundside want me to upload a pic of that page?

EDIT
looking at the diagram of the cluster that lists it as a v/w purple/white wire that connects to the brake fail light via brake fluid level sensor to the ign will upload a pic of both pages

Don't know what pin on the plug it is except that its beside the big yellow wire on the bottom row. The schematic I got from AFF lists it as 976 and declares that its orange. (It probably is on the main loom side of the plug). Bridged ground sounds correct.. But why would brake fail need a separate feed from the ignition? It does make sense though.. I hooked it to permanent earth and the brake fail light came on.. Just seems an odd design. I'd love to see your scematic.. That'd be great. I just wired an FG column into my BA.

I just wired an FG column into my BA, it's all working great.. But the voilet wire isn't currently hooked up. I think it just goes to the orange wire on the FG plug.. Negative bridged.. But verification would be great.

No worries, my only guess for it being there is like a secondary test to show you that the light on the dash works, its sort of the only explination i can come up with, but still seems odd because all the lights light up when switched to ign to show they are working.
