Recently my 2005 BA2 has started indling rough and sometimes will splutter when put into gear and I have to turn the engne off. 125000kms, just replaced the sparkplugs, will replace the ignition coils this weekend. This happenswhen at startup sometimes it seems to idle high, then it will drop about 500rpm, after you shift it into gear it feels rough, almost a clunk then starts sputtering and cant be driven. I have to restart the engine and then hoep it doesnt happen again.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? |

sound like your coils, and remember to get the genuine coils as i got some aftermarket ones and they lasted all of 6 months.
Best off getting the right ones first time! |

OK, changed out the ignition coils and the issue is still occurring. Saw a friend who lives with a mechanic, and went over to there house. The mechanic had a look at it and thinks the computer is fried and that the manifold gasket needs to be replaced. His OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner didn't get anything from my cars computer.

Nothing wrong with the computer more Lilkely all caused by a blown inlet manifold gasket.

OK, im supposed to be going to Sydney this weekend and had to book the car in at a mechanics. I dont know the guy, he was one of only 3 in the are that can do the work before Friday. He's fixed the gasket, all good, then i get a call, and he advised me that the number 1 cylinder is not firing. He asked if i wanted them to look into it, saying it's either compression or an injector. Why cant things be simple? I cant drive on one cylinder, and that means i either have to take a 1/2 day off or book in again.

Picked up the car and everything is OK. Missfiring cylinder was resolved, even with out all the additional work they wanted to do. And it run sooo smooth now. Nice to have the power back.

Its was the manifold gasket. Fixed by another mechanic, he gave it to the apprentice, apparently its not a fun job on a BA. Cost $190.
