Does someone know what the noise is?
My vehicle is Ford AUII, Year 2000. I have noticed this noise for about a month or so but have not taken much notice of it until today, it appears to be getting louder. I don't know if its a bearing noise and don't know where the noise is coming from which makes it bit more difficult. When turning the engine off I notice a slight hissing noise, I don't know if its in the manifold area or a leak elsewhere. I have used my Sony Handycam to record the sound in video format and have uploaded two videos to Youtube. Youtube links are attached. Hopefully someone here might know what the problem / noise coming from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK-fYkU ... e=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3EsDMH ... e=youtu.be I've replaced the idler pulley last year as well as the tensioner. I know the water pump has a slight leak and I'm losing steering fluid from the power steering rack. Any assistance is welcome. I'm in Brisbane area. Cheers |

most likely if your water pump is leaking it could be that, have you spun the water pump, alternator or power steering pump without the belt on?
you should be able to feel roughness and play in the bearings if you spin them by hand... |

With Troyman, take of the belts and spin the pulleys, see it there is any noise or excessive play.

Hi Troyman and SWC,
Thanks for that tip, nope have not done that as yet, but will be doing so by end of the week. I'll let you know which one it is when I do the test. Cheers |

Mine also does this but I'm not too worried about it.

Atlas600,
No worries ...Horses for courses..some like noisy exhausts so the whole street can hear, I like to have mine running with less noise as possible. This weekend I'll find the what the culprit that's causing the problem. Bearings can sometimes run hot and eventually cause other problems, prevention better than cure. |
