If i remember correctly, EA series 1's were a 3 speed auto.
can anyone verify this?
Also, is an EA S-Pack series 1 a 3spd?

All auto series 1 EA's were the three speed. The four speed tranny didn't come along till the series 2.

im looking at one on the weekend and i'm not sure if it's series one or 2.
I'm also guessing they have series 2 on the ID tags?

I doubt it, however you may be abe to tell if you know the build codes, and the build date (after sept 89)

Other thing to look for in a series 2 are tibbe locks.

If its an auto, simply look for a P R N D 3 2 1 face and a power/econ switch on shift selector, otherwise it will have P R N D 2 1.

Also check the throttle body, it will have a cable running back towards and connecting to the gearbox if its a 3 speed auto as well, the 4 speed is all electronic so doesnt need a cable.

The 4 speed auto seriesII EA's also got the wonderful badge on the back stating it has a 4 speed electronic auto gearbox as well.
