hey, guys im having some major engine problem now. i replaced my fuel pump about a week ago and things went fine for about 5 days or so and after that it started to get into trouble again.

usually i try to start the car but it won't start. today i tried again, it started, turned the car back off. turned it on again, didn't work. so my mum tried and the engine turned over. then i reved the car up to about 3000RPM and let it idle again, i did this for about 3 times.

car seemed very responsive but when i looked at the exhaust, it left a whole lotta mess. There was black liquid dripping from exhaust as well as a whole bunch stuck on my garage door and floor. i thought it might be something to do with oil.

Sorry about the long story but i really need help with this. Thank you all.

By the way i have a EA Fairmont Ghia Series I

Well the best guess I have without seeing the car might be a blocked filter it's something you should do if you change out the pump anyway imo. And the black watery stuff out the exhaust is usually just condensation mixed with exhuast soot, my V8 spits that out in the morning when cold.
Hope this helps? :)

Does it start with part throttle?

Put your foot about 10% on the accelerator and see if it starts.

A petrol engine needs three things to operate: Air, fuel and spark.

As long as your engine isn't making any awful clanging noises, I'd assume it has air and compression.

Next easiest thing to check is if it has spark. Get a secondhand spark plug and plug it into any lead and sit it on any metal object on the engine. Crank the motor and see if you have spark. If not, there's ya problem.

The next thing to check is if there's fuel. Get an assistant to crank the motor while you hold a large screwdriver on any fuel injector. Put your ear to the plastic handle of the screwdriver and listen for any ticking, about one loud tick per second. If you have ticking, it means you have no fuel pressure.

Test these above comments and let me know how you go.

so the car revs ok and is responsive and the only problem is black out the exhaust???? it could be jus soot and moisture..... any other problems??? if its hard to start make sure the fuel pump check valve is working aswell as the fuel pressure regulator...

Yeah it does turn over ZB351, water level is good, and oil i got replaced about 5000Kms ago. slightly black.

I hope your rite NFGhia and thanks :)

I'll check the sparkies tomorrow morning, to see if there is any spark. if there isn't then i guess thats the problem. I might also replace the fuel filter since i replaced my fuel pump. hopefully that would help fix the problem.

thanks ill keep u all posted

All good ideas, you also might want to remove a spark plug and turn it over, see if anything leaks out of the plug hole. lets hope not. If it does you could have a minor head problem. I have seen this before on a friends EB. Good luck and let us know how you go.

as scott says, i was gettin at the head probs, very common on EA's and EB's, hopefully not, but its a possibility. try the removal of all plgs and turn it over a bit, see if anythin comes out of plug holes.

hmmm i was about to look at my car, but it works like normal now, didnt' touch anything and yet the engine turns over smoothly, doesn't stall or make funny noises. all is going well but im still not sure what caused it. still going to replace the fuel filter and regulator if they are stuffed.

thanks for the help everyone :)

black liquid ? ? that could be water build up, vapour, in the exaust system colecting carbon and when u run it it shift out of the exaust onto the floor. mine does this, doesn't use any oil or water or anything.
