i just bought a manual ba with a cube short shifter already installed, my problems are these...
It makes noise like a wurring sound in 2nd and ticks in 5th on highway speeds
The gears are sometimes a little hard to select
And the down gearing can be a little jerky....

Have I bought a lemon? :/

Short shifters do tend to transmit more noise from the gearbox, but I had a similar problem with my EB..... long story, short.....new 5th gear and basicly a full gearbox reco!

So I swapped the springs that came with the cube shifter from the stiff ones to the soft ones and its much better now...no more noise and gears are easier to select but I'm still debating whether to put original shifter back in
