2007 MKII Fairmont Ghia starting problems.

My ford has starting problems for example at times I turn the key to start, the motor winds over but engine won't fire up, I turn the key to the off position and then attempt to start again. The engine starts. At other times the engine starts and immediately stalls, it starts on the second attempt. A mechanic had my car for a full day running all test and checking and resetting the computer and could not find any problem with the car. Has some one out there had something similar. When the mechanic had the car all day, none of the above happened. Its doing my head in.

Engine coolant temp sensor? I don't know about that model, but they cause similar problems in earlier vehicles.

may be loosing fuel pressure after sitting (check valve faulty) or faulty fuel pump -did mechanic test with fuel pressure gauge-which may not show faulty at time of testing if fault not present..........................
