My BA ute's transmission packed up and I went to the wreckers and got a second hand one out of a fairmont. I fitted it up but issue I have now is that I have no speedo and it appears to be in limp home mode. Could it have something to do with fairmonts having ABS and ba Utes not having ABS?

The Fairmont would have had ABS and that means the extension housing is different as the ABS front wires deliver the signal to the Speedo. You are going to have to change the extension housing or, take it back to where you got the trans from, did you get a warranty from the Wreckers?

Simpler Fix.
If you have your old transmission, simply remove its extension housing. remove the speedo drive gear. Swap it onto the new transmission. Yes, the gearbox lacks the sender as most BA's use CAN bus to get speed from the ABS. However, there arent that many UTE's without ABS. Do confirm with the wrecker that swapping the extension housing wont void the warranty. It shouldnt Nigel |
