Hey guys. I've just got myself an October 01 build date series2 tickford xr8 manual ute and I'm going to give the engine a quick freshen up. I'm trying to figure out weather it's a 200 or 220 kW motor. I've been getting my google on a bit and have read that the 200's had crane 1.6 roller rockers and the 220's had yella terra 1.7's along with the bigger maf housing and the bigger tickford tb, oil cooler, slightly smaller cam etc. My engine has no oil cooler, no tickford tb, but to my delight, happens to have yella terra rockers. Does Anyone know what the deal is with that? Also how do I tell the difference between 1.7 and 1.72?

its a ute, no au utes had the 220 kw engine. but being late series 2 it will be a 200kw engine.
and the rocker thing is a mixed answer thing, some got the crane and some got the yella terra rockers.. the 50 million dollar question is were the crane rockers 1.6 or 1.7 ratio?? I know the yella terra ones are only 1.7 ratio the maf housings on the au's are all the same and yes the 220 kw had the 70mm throttle body with the tickford wings stamped into the front of the body |

I'm wondering why you want to give the engine a quick freshen up. Those 5.0's run forever. How many k's has it done? I've had one in a test vehicle that had done 620k's and still did a 2 wheel burnout. Didn't smoke or knock
I've never pulled a 200kW engine apart that had crane rockers fitted. They all had the YT's. I do have another couple of 200kW engines in the workshop atm so I might take a look. I am also wanting to get to the bottom of this urban legend Manufacturing tolerances will be bigger than any difference that could be measured when comparing 1.70 v's 1.72. Treat them as being the same

Crane cams roller rockers with Ford part number F3ZE-6529-AB = "Cobra 1.7 ratio pedistal mount"
These are good rockers, but for some reason are incompatible with my favourite Crane cams 44308 valve spring upgrade kit Do I get the $50M now?

Awesome. That answers a few questions guys. Yeah, the reason I'm giving the engine a freshen up is because it has a slight knock under load and there's water in the oil. It's lowish Kays. Round the 180,000 mark. And if it didn't have these issues, then I wouldn't be pulling it apart and I'd just keep it well maintained. But seeing as how it's going to be coming apart anyway, and I intend on keeping the car for a while, then I might as well throw some fresh rings and bearings, double row timing chain, better valve spring gear, basic Freshen up of the heads etc. I've actually noticed that when pulling the rocker covers off, that the oil that's sitting in there on the heads is dark, where the oil in the sump is milky. I'm thinking it's got a blockage in the oil gallery's somewhere or a buggered oil pump which would explain the knocking sound. I have no idea why there's water in the oil at this point. I'm thinking The block and heads will have to be hot tanked and crack tested and If lack oil circulation has in fact been a problem, then God knows what nick all the bearing surfaces are gunna be like and weather the crank and cam are gunna be worn or gouged or whatever. Currently it's out of the car and all the top end and timing cover is all removed. What's people's thaughts on this?

water can be from intake manifold gasket allowing water port seepage, could be corrosion in timing case behind water pump ect
