Hi all,
I had an ongoing issue with the ford cutting out when warm. Replaced Coil, TFI module ect and this only fixed for a little bit. I decided to replace distributor as I was told the hall effect sensor in them craps out sometimes. I removed the old one (what a pain that was) and tried to replace it with the new. I used the procedure (TDC compression, mark where rotor button is ect) but the new dizzy wouldn't go in at that spot. In fact the new dizzy will only go in at two sections of rotation (180 degrees apart. I assumed this normal to make it easier to install?) I set new dizzy in where it would go and the engine did start. The dizzy housing has not much rotation left (TFI is parallel with the engine block). Tested with timing light and the groove on harmonic balance is about 15mm to the right of the mark (When im facing engine from engine bay). Anyone got any suggestions about what I have done wrong? Thinking to set it to diag mode, but it would seem that its a tooth out. (Edit) its an unbranded dizzy from ebay about $80. Thanks anyone who can help |

Did you swap the gear from the originl dizzy to the new one?
If you bought an "unbranded" dizzy from Ebay then you can bet that it is a Chinese one. They have a hardened gear and chew out the aux shaft. |

Wow,
Thank you very much for that information. I may well swap the gear over now that I know that info. The aux gear would be a lot of work to change! |
