Hello again,
Hmmmm, I've been losing power steering fluid from the Power steering pump over a period of time. I have changed over the high pressure power steering hose , I'm at a loss as to where the oil / fluid is coming from. it has taken about 3 weeks to lose fluid, its not dropping directly onto the alternator, I do see drops of oil / fluid on the cement floor coming from the front of engine more or less. I've taken two hoses to Pirtek to have the fittings removed and replaced onto a new hose. Pirtek informed me they cannot place an inline connector to join two hoses. Instead for $140.00 they can use the existing fittings i.e. use the fitting from a Ford EA that goes to the power steering pump and the Ford AU fitting that goes to the Steering Rack end with a new hose made with correct alignment. Picking this hose up next week. Is there any other culprits that could cause oil / fluid to leak near the front of the engine? Thanks, Bondy99 |

is there any oil on the bottom of the pump? maybe its leaking from the front reservoir o ring or shaft seal? otherwise check if the steering rack boots are full of oil? if so the rack seals are stuffed..

@ TROYMAN,
I have not checked the bottom of the power steering pump as yet, I was looking to see if there was any oil leaking on top of the alternator, nothing seen but have noticed some oil underneath the alternator couple of weeks ago which I wipe off on occasion. I have a spare power steering pump but don't know what condition its in. I have new gaskets and seals for it but no tools to pull the pump apart. I don't know of anyone in Brisbane area that can rebuild them without charging big dollars. I was told I may have a leaky steering rack, I never gave it a thought as a source of losing oil from. Oil loss seems to be coming from the front than from the back. Are those rack seals easy to get to and replace or does one better off getting a reconditioned rack? Trying to save a few dollars being on a pension these days. Cheers. |
