Hi everybody!
I am looking to replace the harmonic balancer on my '95 EF. I was told by a previous owner that they have replaced the engine with a later one, and apparently there are two different harmonic balancers depending on the year.... Any ideas how to tell which one I need? |

There is only one for the EF. The previous owner may have replace it with one from an AU.
AU Balancers require a different puller to one from an EF or EL. |

The whole engine was apparently replaced at some stage. I was just looking at parts websites and they were listing part numbers for EF balancers up to '96, and then EF '96 on had the same as an EL which was different to the earlier part number
PB1283-ST vs PB1432-ST |

Same motor, as long as it has the tone ring you are fine.

EF including 96 is one part number and EL 96 on is another, Just checked on my supplier.
Tone ring is for the crank angle sensor. It is the aluminum toothed ring behind the harmonic balance. |

Just confusing that they list them as "POWERBOND STREET HARMONIC BALANCER 8/94-8/96 FORD FALCON EF 6CYL 4.0L" and "POWERBOND STREET HARMONIC BALANCER 9/96-8/98 FORD FALCON EF EL 6CYL 4.0L" Both mentioning EF, and on one site mentioning something about H engine onward. So I want the earlier one then? |

EL was released in September 1996 so i don't see how there is a 9/96 on EF. EF ceased production in August 1996.

I don't know, I don't know enough about them, just got that from trying to find the right part number. I give up - not paying 150 postage to get it shipped from Australia anyway. Thanks for the help though. |

i think you looking into it to much,
if your car is a 95 ef, just buy one suited to the 95 ef.. if the engine is el someone would have put a ef balancer otherwise it wouldnt run... |
