I own a 2008 BF III wagon which has done just over 50,000kms. I have noticed lately a quite violent vibration through the steering column (steering wheel wobbles left and right forcefully max of about 1 1/2 inches), but only when I am braking and more specifically, braking between 80 and 90km/h. Other than that, I cannot pick up any vibrations at all.

Anyone have any opinions as to what might be causing it?

check your brakes as it seems to be brake related. specifically the rotors & pads
