ok, had a hunt around at work, the only revisions to boss motors are the timing chain tensioners, any found to have plastic units are replaced with a metal unit.
i also had a chat to the engine guru, and there have been a fair few instances of bent valves....mainly out of new car warranty, and a few dodgy places are slapping new valves in, doing a quick valve grind and not facing the heads, cleaning the seats or even inspecting the valve guides.
might pay to take it into a reputable ford dealer and ask questions, especially if it as bad as ur saying it is

Hi guys, bit of a thread mine here  I am looking at buying a BA or BF XR8 Ute and wondering if peoples opinions have changed on this engine since this thread was commented on last. I'm looking at utes with 115000 to 175000 kays on them. Any BOSS owners out there with positive feedback on their engines now the kays are climbing up?

Cheers

I sold my BA2 Pursuit at 165k's and it was still going strong. I put the steel tensioners in and a GT500 oil pump and did oil changes at 5k. Made 386hp at the tyres right before I traded it in.
I suggest going straight for the Pursuit because the 290 engine is a much better beast and if you can spring for a late BF Super Pursuit with the 302kw engine that is the ducks guts. I loved the one I had.
