Hi guys,
I am interested in finding out how the twin thermo fans work in our AUs. I know that when the air con is on that both fans run automatically. Am I correct in saying that they are variable speed also? What I would like to know is when does the first one activate? When does the second one activate also or is it only when air con is used? Any info would be great! |

There is 2 speeds... Both on low and both on high...
Both on low come in when the car starts to get hot or the AC is engaged (providing the AC temp sensor is working)... If the car continues to get hot the computer brings them both onto high speed... Same the Air con... If the pressure gets to high or the discharge gets too hot then it'll ramp the fans up to try and relieve the system... Cheers, Tim

in the au the fans are off until the coolant gets to 170 deg f, then both fans are on low speed until either the coolant temp gets to 212 deg f or the a/c temp or trans temp gets to high then both switch to high,

There you go... Troyman even knows the exact values...

Ok that's very helpful guys. It is concerning a track car that will have no air con. I was just concerned that the second fan was only associated with air con. As long as both fans will come on at high temp then that's fine.
Thanks! |

Thanks! if you run a j3 or similar you should be able to change the temp when the fans are triggered. |

I was planning to have a J3 tune done so I will put that on the order list! Would rather they come on a little earlier and save an over heat scenario on the track.

Troy,
Furthering on this... Contemplating going a blower on my ED (technically more AU than ED)... As such going with either the Wolf V550 or the Haltech Elite 750 which gets released this year (do you recommend one manufacturer over the other, what was in your ED?) Anyway, I'll need to remap the thermofans to work as they did on the AU... You mentioned the coolant temps they come on at (170/212) but do you know the hysteresis? Do you know what AC pressure and temp they come on at (and high or low) and the hysteresis for that? Not sure how well the aftermarket ECU's control termofans... They may not be able to read the discharge pressure and similar... Cheers, Tim

Hmmm...
May be easier to leave all the AC control and thermofan control on the factory PCM... Attachment: Attachment: Trick it with the crank pulse to think it's running the car... Cheers, Tim
