Hey guys, I have an EF Fairmont, and as you know it came standard with the very attractive tape deck. I've comtemplating getting a CD/MP3 head unit and replaces the tape deck, but I can't stand to see it go, lol. Main reason being that if I bought a CD/MP3 head unit the backlighting won't be the same as the tape deck it replaces or match the rest of the dash. What are my alternatives?

Can I buy a stacker and hook it up somehow to the tape deck (it does have some CD options on it)?
Should I seek out a premium sound system?
Anymore ideas?

O, and if I must hook up a new CD/MP3 head unit, what brand and model would look best, and be best for an EF Fairmont, with the grey interior, not capachino?

Thanks guys, signed picky bastard. 8-)

Another alternative is to mount a 'new' headunit somewhere else - glovebox. But it'd be a messy job, and would not be as functional.

Thinking outside of the box for a moment. You could get a new HU, then change your dash and clock/tripcomp to have the same backlight colour :)

But if you can get a suitable stacker, that'd be the 2nd best option, 1st best if you abolsutly must retain the 'stock' look.

Lol, yep, gotta keep the stock look I think, love that orange backlighting type the Fairmont has. Thanks.

You could run a stacker or remote wire a faceplate somewhere else, keep the stock headunit it just disable the sound but enable the lights.
