Just a quick question just changed diff in my El falcon futura from the standard diff 3.23 to an EF xr6 diff and it leans down on a hectic angle faceing the ground and when ever I down shift there is servr shuttering that shakes the entire car like the it's about to fall apart especially with just cruising in neutral (it's a factory 5 speed) with or without the clutch in at 40km/h or less i was told to change the upper control arms as they were different sizes but the only difference is the weird angles they are on lol and by measureing them up beside each other ( my el ones are still in the car) it looks as though they wont fit i was thinking maybe the lower controls are a bit shorter and that would angle the diff up has anyone done this before or have any thoughts on it any help would be appreciate it just want to get it fixed before i do any serious damage to my diff

The upper control arms are a different length between the Std (GLi/Futira/Fairmont) and XR suspension. XR's being shorter.
The Lowert control arms are the same length. The EL diff hat has a different location for the pivot point for the Watts Linkage from the EF. If you have used the original Lower arms and the original upper arms then the diff shouls actually point slightly up with the lowered suspension. Have you located the arms in the correct mount holes? |

would it be a better if i try to get the upper control arms in From the EF XR6 again ( i never actually unbolted my standard el ones just measured the xr ones up and it looked like the wouldn't fit they seem to have a funny twist in them just measured them up against my el ones that are already in) and put my El diff hat on the ef diff it it will make a difference with the watts linkage bend, i dont have have the LCA i am also just using my standard El ones

Get the uppers from the XR if you can and change then over.
Lower control arms are the same length. The diff hat will not effect the Watts Linkage (ie Bend it). They changed the position of the pivot point on the EL to slightly improve the rear for handling. |

so today i went to the effort of pulling both of my El Futura Upper control arms out and replace them with the EF XR6 upper control arms to no luck the angle and bend on the EF comtrol arms make it impossible to fit which throws that theory out the window, and as a secondary thought to that is there any body mounts that are different to the EF -> EL for the upp[er control arms that i need i seriously feel as though ive hit a complete dead end

EF/EL Upper control arms are interchangable as are the lower control arms. They are listed as the same part number.
XR6 Upper control arms are 340mm centres and the Std Suspension is 320mm centres. EB are different. Last edited by SWC on Mon Feb 08, 2016 7:20 pm, edited 1 time in total. |
