ok guys as description sed i have a ba xr6 was an auto but the bloke before me put a 5speed in it now has no speedo anyone know what could be causing this thanks

is it a ute?? does it have abs?

if its a ute without abs then it would have originally got its speedo signal from the gearbox, if the 5 speed is from a sedan or a car with abs the gearbox wont have the provision for the speedo sender, this is because cars with abs get there speedo signal from the abs not the gearbox like non abs cars...

ok very helpfull thankyou its a sadan and my other question is if the signal comes from the abs sensor if the speedo isent working wouldent that indercate that i have a faulty sensor and if that is the case shouldent i have an abs light on ???

as mentioned if you have ABS system this is where the speedo signal comes from to the pcm then to speedo - try unplugging and reconnecting abs connection - faulty instrument cluster or wiring is also possible - scan ABS and instruments for fault codes - check fuse connections for instruments and ABS
