hey guys i have a 98 el xr6 which im currently turboing. i bought a complete turbo with for $2000. only thing it doesnt have is ecu. it has 42lb injectors, rising rate fuel reg and a 355lph fuel pump. i am tight on money at the moment. will i be able to boost my car on 7psi with no dramas with the standard ecu? also the turbo is a ebay spec gt45, so boost wont be on until 3500rpm aswell. p plater in vic so thats handy to keep the noise down around town.

any advice is appreciated :)

You will need either a J3 chip for the ECU or an aftermarket ECU.

You won't be able to do it with just a std unchipped ECU.

is it 100% needed? like theres no way it wont work without it?

i know people say its all in the tune. but 7 psi, rising rate fuel reg and the injectors/fuel pump will supply enough fuel for low boost. i know the ecu doesnt read possitive preasure or something.

take away the fact of doing it by the books, will it work at all?

I found this thread a while ago when I was researching on what's required to turbo a falcon:
ford-turbo-supercharger-f22/diy-turbo-with-no-tune-t79685.html

I haven't owned a force induction car before so I cannot say for sure if it is correct, in saying that you'd need some way to keep an eye on the Afr.... I'm onboard with SWC with a j3 chip and a tune though, just to eliminate detonation and keep the afr's steady.

Do your research.

7psi without the correct tune is still enough to stuff your motor with little effort.

42lb injectors on the stock ECU/tune will flood the engine with fuel even at idle. Do away with the rising rate reg and use a B series Turbo fuel reg. You will need an AU Fuel rail to fit the B series reg.

MAP sensor will not read positive pressure so a bleed off will be needed to overcome that. Do away with the rising rate reg and use a B series Turbo fuel reg.

Do the job properly. There is no such thing as Cheap, Reliable, Performance.
