I'v got a mate here that is a Ford mechanic this is what he has said: take it too your nearest dealer but in my experience the air mixer shaft connected to your HIM module will be broken. They will pull your dash out and replace it with a stronger one.

yer very common. again im a ford mechanic and have at least 30 of these dashes in my apprenticeship. most of the problems are caused by a snapped air mix shaft, but your sounds like a HIM module fault, and will require replacing
i did up some instructions on ford forums a while back. ill see if i can dig them up |

I've got the same problem on my BA. I may consult with a ford dealer to see what they say.
I am bloody freezing in the morning on my way to work. |

Hey All,
I've Got a 4/03 XR6 Turbo BA, & 1 out of 10 time's the heater works on hot but the 9 other times it's cold, I can see the shaft moving everytime but not getting hot air would this just be the mixer shaft as it's weird it's intermittent! Cheers Grant |

Ford service centre quoted me $500 if it's the shaft, $1000 if it's the control unit. the guy told me shaft is a $60 dollar part so it's mostly labour to remove and refit the dash. It had better not rattle afterwards!

You should be able to see by putting your head under dash on passenger side & see f the control unit is trying to move the shaft, or if it's not moving at all!
There's probably cheaper places to get it done, last shaft I did I think I charged around $400, but if it needs control unit my scan tool doesn't program after fitted! |

Hi,
My ford territory has just had the same thing happen, it has already been fixed on two previous occasions, so this will be the third time. This time it will only just make the warranty. I'm worried that if it happens a fourth time I will be out of warranty. Where do I stand? Does ford give a warranty on the repairs? Dave |

Hi guys'
I have a BA 03 Fairmont Ghia. I think my condition is tricky because I have normal function at driver side but its always cold air at passenger side. I can hear flaps working and I can change air flow from front to windscreen to foot etc with no prob. the strange thing is the A\C compressor is working and generating very cold air from passenger side and it is not just air. At this stage my car has heater and A|C on at same time. Even at High temp at both sides. Fan speed changes according to temp that I set. It seems to be software problem not hardware. Any idea guys to fix this or where to look or check? Thanks |

You will have 2 mixer shafts, one for the driver side and another for the passenger. You have broken one of the 2.
