You can buy kits off the shelf, they come as stage 1, 2 and 3. Pretty sure they have to be engineered though when you get them put on. The kits are from about $1500 or so right up to about $3000 - can't remember actual prices though.
I think the different stages just increase the functionability of them, as in the amount of tilts, hops and manouvres.

I think he's refering to a standard set of airshocks, ie pump-ups. To lift the ride height when the boot is loaded.

Should be able to pick up a set from most auto shops.

Try this link, I think this is more like what you are looking for

yeah i meant a normal set of air shocks to lift the ride height when we load up the boot,,

i was told a while ago that you have to get the ones that go inside the coil spring,,but that is where the shock goes..

i'll ask around a see what happens

Some fords had a self level function that automatically does what you want.

They consisted of a little compressor mounted inside the front left fender, a pressure line to the rear shocks, the shocks with inbuilt air bladders and a level sensor (mounted somewhere) to tell the compressor to pump up or let down the rear shocks.

Some people didn't like them but they were functional and did the job well - mind you it was another thing to maintain :(
Much simpler if you just use the shocks, air lines and a schroder valve in the boot :)

I have seen the bits in wreacking yards. I think they were options on EF's fairmonts and better. Others on this forum will be able to say for certain. It would not surprise me if this option was available on EA, EB, up to AU's. Again i would not be surprised if any late model live rear axle falcon that had this option could be retro fitted to your EA.

In any case, a helpfull ford parts dealer should be able to tell you what will fit :)

Cheers.

EA series 1 Ghia's and the fairlanes (EA-EB what ever they are called) had it, it was deleted due to service costs, but I still have mine working I love it. You have to use very long softish springs though with the air shocks.

The compressor is at the front of the drivers side (the right).
The self leveling module is located on the body above the diff on the passenger side, it then has the upper watts linkage rear bar with a little ball on it to allow a connecting rod between the diff and the SLS module to determine if air needs to be put in or bled out via the compressor.
The shocks brand new cost about $240 a pair from memory.

Most people remove them, due to air leaking issues and the softish ride they give, aftermarket shocks and springs are needed if handling is high on the list although a big rear sway bar could help alot in this department however, the shocks share a common air line via a t-piece so hard cornering will see air shift from one shock to the next still.
While a valve in the boot sounds good having to pump up or remove air to achieve a level height can be a pain if constantly changing load weights, but on the upside are less prone to leaking and tend to hold pressure.
By default the SLS sits at a 4wd height, but the linkage bar can be cut and modified to allow a lower seating rear end (about lows height at best)

Only in EA GHIA's and equivalant fairlane up to the EB, then it was dropped as I said earlier due to service costs.

Hope all of that has been helpful as well :D

well mine did have sls but it was dispenced with before we bought it.

i'm not interested in sls as it's just more expense, what i want is the bolt on air shocks of the 80's and 90's type.

they were good and i had them on every car i owned .

Rear air shocks were standard in all Fairlanes and LTD's from NA/DA to NL/DL. You might be able to find all the parts you need in one of these. Plus of course, the EA Ghia's.

They were removed when the LWB sedans got IRS as standard.

Ive got air shocks in the back of my wagon, coutesy of pinch and pay nothing.

The lines keep leaking, so they have no air in right now, until I devise a way to get lines to screw onto them without leaking. The valve is in the boot, and kinda looks wierd when you're at the petrol station, and pump something in your boot..you get some wierd looks. The shocks that I got are yellow if that helps. no brand on them.

Cheers
