Trim has to come off.
The 3rd screw holds a small black plastic 'tag' that is used to mound the door trim with a self-tapper on the inside-edge (closest to the door spine) There'll be: 1 x screw on the inside edge of the door. 1 x screw on the outside edge 1 x cap and screw on the door-open lever 2 x caps and screws at the bottom edge. 2 x screws in the door handle itself (you have to pop off the door-handle spear. On BA you need a small flat-blade screwdriver on the outer face, on a BF use a small allen key and find the hole along the bottom edge of the handle) Lukeyson

Easiest to pull vigorously from the bottom edge. It'll pop-out from there, trust me. It then pops out everywhere else, and then lifts up over both the window-edge clips and the door-lock stalk. The door-open lever twists and fits through the opening.
When you have the drivers door off, hold it just off the door, then reach around the back of the trim and pinch the sides of the mirror controller so it can be pushed up and out of the hole. Then you can get a small screwdriver in to get the cable out. The connector in the mirror controller is a bit of a munt....blame the dodgy design guys from the EF days since I think that's how far back it goes.... >He don's his flame retardent suit...< Lukeyson |

Bah, it's easy. I've had to take it off heaps of times. It's just a matter of knowing where the clips are. I had to change my whole door loom to fit a Mirror Memory controller from a Ghia, and to fit the courtesy lights in the lower corner of the door trim, and even that wasn't very hard.
It's worst when you do these things for thr first time, because you don't quite know where all the clips or screws might be. But do it once and you're right from then on. I like to take pics of everything when I do them so I can either help others or know where things are the next time I do them. Anal, I know. Lukeyson |
