Hey there. Did you find a solution to this? I'm having the same problem with my ford ute - overheating on hot days, up inclines and with air conditioner on.

Lots of people tend to forget to bleed the air out of the cooling system. I think potentially it has an air lock and the system needs to be bled. Park the car on a hill, remove the radiator cap and let it idle for 20 mins or so whilst keeping the water up to it.
This video should give you a bit of an idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUpXgAJ1gjU Gab |

However, madeaspack wrote: to bleed the cooling system take the 10mm hose off the top of the thermostat housing and fill overflow bottle up untill there is a solid stream of water coming out of the thermostat(where the hose was removed from) when there is a solid stream put the hose back on and top up water in bottle as required.

Was there ever a solution to this? I am having same problems by the sound of it.. I'm so sick of it..it's a 2000 au 4.0l tonnes. I have changed engine, new v8 radiator, new water pump, new thermostat and tried with none. I'm in Townsville so it's hot most of the year.. I can't believe I'm still having these issues with everything I have replaced..

Hello,
This is an old thread, but it may only be heat soak. An engine takes a while to warm, and also to cool down. When you turn it off, the block temp rises as there is no water moving to take the heat away. On start up, as the water starts moving, stored heat is transferred and the gauge moves up. It will come down quickly, and this is all quite normal. If it boils or loses coolant there may / will be an issue, but the gauge moving high on start up is normal.
