Hi Guys,
Yesterday my dad got a new radio installed into his AU wagon, when he went to drive it afterwards it would not turn over. dash lights come on when the key is in the 'on' position, but when you turn the key to start it nothing happens.
anyone have any ideas/clues/things to check?

Cheers,
Thomas

A few questions to help us...

- Was the replacement radio another Ford factory unit?
- Was the replacement done by Autobarn, or a professional installer?
- If the new unit was a Pioneer, Sony, etc, was an Aerpro harness used to connect it?

The replacement radio was an aldi brand radio with a pop out screen for gps.
The replacement was done by a professional installer. (the one stop shop in Pakenham, Vic)
The installer spliced a new harness to fit the head unit, so the car now has 2 different plugs, one for the stock radio and one for the new one.
I'll see if i can get some photos.

Won't let me attach any pictures :(

I did notice something when i went to take the photo's though.

Dad tried the 61 minute thing with the key, had the key in start for 61+minutes, turn key off and then start it, nothing happened.

I don't know if it was doing this before but now when the key is turned to on dash lights come on, and the smartshield light comes on solid for a second, and then constantly flashes about twice a second.

From the workshop manual, it looks like a Smartshield fault. Have you got a repair or workshop manual? What did the installer have to say about the problem?

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 10 mins to reset the ECU?

a "professinal" would have just used an harness that plugs into the factory loom, then use the wires from that plug to the new head unit

it sounds dodgy to me

also if he has driven it home afterwards it could be no fault of the installer and the BCM/BEM has failed and the car wont start ie smartsheild as above post!

Does the interior light work?
if not check the fuse. Car won't start if the fuse is blown.
