Hi All
Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have an EF Fairmont wagon with a heater problem, mine is I have vacuum at the heater tap regardless where the setting is, so I guess this is why I can't get the car to blow hot air? Anyone know why this is? Ken |

Vacuum is used to hold the heater tap valve open, which in turn lets the coolant pass through the heater core. When the valve corrodes, it stops moving freely and can stay closed. Have you inspected the condition of the tap?

does it still have vacuum when the temp selector is all the way to hot? IIRC its a failsafe that with a loss of vacuum the heater tap opens up allowing the cooling system a little more capacity
its been a while since I played with a E series 6 though..... |

as mentioned in cold position vacuum to heater tap equals tap off (no heat) -
does vacuum turn off with control set to heat as mentioned previously is the green plastic hose going to the tap- black plastic hose going thru firewall with green one comes from engine vacuum if not switch - heater taps fail internally and appear to work from outside - but need correct vacuum for operation standard or climate control ? |
