Before you chuck the towel in completely, check the five volt reference voltage on pin 26, and check the signal ground voltage on pin 46, there should be no more than 20 mili volts, and there should be five volts on pin 26. I have had several cases where there has been a dry solder joint on the signal ground and it has upset the operation of the map sensor making the engine run rich.
