This has been about 2 months of searching and the issue has been happening for 7 years ish. Grandpa is just throwing money at the local gas shop and ive been getting p****d off about it. Lately he has been threatening to sell the car and scrap it but the engine is sooo strong and its in pristine condition. Him being an old bloke doesnt take off at the lights ect. has helped a lot.

Now the issue im going to come across is trying to find this valve to either replace or rebuild.
Also how do i bleed the air properly out of the gas converter and how can i assure myself that it has been bled well.
Is there a better aftermarket option and can i run two converters instead of the one to ensure that it doesnt freeze up in extreme conditions?

Main reason a convertor freezes up are 1. convertor placed to high above coolant level. 2 not enough coolant flow. 3. Incorrect thermostat (needs single stage). 4. Heater hoses to convertor done incorrectly.

Take some pics of your currect setup if you can. that will help alot...

create a account with photobucket, upload your pics and click on the ING link and past it ito the forum post, leave a line between each pic

Most EA-FG use a 2 stage thermostat.

Image

What happens is when the car is cold it shuts off flow to the heater curcuit so car warms up quickerbut convertor works on this curcuit so freezes up... Now what can happen is when car is cruising along the thermostat can close during normal running.... frozen convertor,,,

The thermostat you need is this one

Image

this does not shut off the heater curcuit....

The pics I have used are just ones I found on google....

its an AU s2 Fairlane With a vct engine

NOW
The issues im trying to tackle are...
1. car idles poorly and sounds like its missing but its at a different place every time when u take a timing light to it.
2. at speeds of 60-100 kph as previusly stated when foot is let off the gas and then back on there is no power for a decent few seconds between 10-15.

i was not aware of the miss till today as i havnt visited my Gramps for a few weeks now.
I have a spare coilpack but coils have been replaces 10,000 km ago new leads about 200 km old and plugs have been plugged down to .8 and are about 5-7,000 km old.

Car runs perfectly on petrol no miss or anything.
Getting to a point of rediculousness now

I also have the correct thermostat for my application by the looks/sounds of things.
GPA tells me that there is infact a jiggly thing on the thermostat i have no idea what it does.
I will be opening it up later on
Photos being uploaded to photobucket now!!

OK .... you have LPG injection

i would say there maybe a 'problem' with the gas computer ... other half has LPG injection on hers & been told [& believe] there is a problem with the LPG computer .... BUT .... for someone to look at it, we need to travel about 300 k's [there & back] for the original supplier to check it out  so it currently is staying as is :| ... otherwise we would need to convert to a vapour style system.

Correct I do
The issue I doubt has anything to do with the ecu or allike system I believe there is a piggy back system for the map of the LPG shizzel. Not the most reliable thing but doubt theres any issues with timing or a/f mixtures.

correct sorta but the gas does use a 'ecu' of sorts & it does 'piggy back' off the petrol system. you would be best to talk to the manufacture of the gas system re problems, not the person that fitted it i think.
