Hi guys.
I have a 12/96 EFII Futura that I want to upgrade the head unit in. I bought a new head unit last week, nothing wrong with the old one but I wanted Bluetooth so I can play my MP3s while traveling instead of using a poxy FM transmitter through my standard tape deck head unit. I have had the dash fascia off before for clock change with a computer display (have yet to run the extra wires to make it work properly). My question is are there any extra parts I need to put the new unit in (brackets, surround, etc) or do most aftermarket units come with the necessary stuff to fit right in. I just wanted to ask before I dive in and get stuck half way through the transfer. Wiring isn't a problem as I usually do my own installs but I have never done an EF before. This new head unit I bought doesn't have any front surround, just some brackets and screws. I bought a Pioneer DEH-X4750BT just for reference. Also here is a pic to show the exact head unit that my car came with. Thanks in advance for any input |

Some head units do come with brackets some dont, if your one didnt you can use the original brackets you may have to get different screws to screw it on to your new head unit. I have used kenwood and alpine in my ef xr6 and used original factory brackets both times, the alpine head unit was a bit stiffer to get in than the kenwood or original unit.

I used the original brackets from the stock head unit to fit the aftermarket Pioneer one. From memory, I had to drill a hole in the bracket to suit the head unit and it fits just fine and slides. Was a bit hard to slide in, but it held it in firmly without issues.
I'm sure you still have the stock wiring loom and plug in the back, purchase the plugs that fit the factory plug with loose end wires, this makes it cleaner and neater when you wire up the wires to the head unit plug.

While we are on the subject..
Can anyone tell me, on an LTD with premium sound, when you connect an aftermarket stereo, will the factory amp still work and run the subwoofer? or do I need to customise more wiring? As in power to turn on the amp and the inputs to the speakers etc. Will the aerpro plug kit work?

Thanks for the replies guys. I have found a way to make it a 'plug 'n' play job with 2 adapters so I can leave my original wiring untouched
