ok guys as stated above im thinking about stroking my au xr8 but just wondering once i have stroked it do i need to get it tuned i would assume you would just wont to know for sure cheers

100% most definitely will require a tune.

To do the work you'll end up spending around $6000 that's if - and only if - you're doing most of the work yourself such as removing and dismantling/reassembling engine. Fittings rings/bearings yourself etc.

A decent chip & tune should come in around $800.
Yes you can get them for less but I wouldn't mess around with pre-programmed off the shelf.
If you're going to stroke it, it should go on a dyno!

Very importantly you need to match the heads/cam and compression to make it worthwhile.

What series AU is it?

yeah ok cheers mate and a series1 as im still on my greens would like to keep the series1 engine number as its legal for me to drive and the more the fuz dont know the better engine will eventually go in to a original 302 xc ute project i have

I went down this path recently with my project XH. I even drove a dart stroker motor 6.0L with custom heads/cam and t56 conversion. It was pretty cool car but my Boss 290 is quicker.
(Very different torque curve though )

If you have 6k you are better off putting it to a decent 302 build with well matched heads/high compression. Lumpy camshaft. Headers, exhaust and tune

Anything under that dollars wise. Forget it.
Headers and exhaust for response and a nice sound is all you could do.

yeah i have a boss260 but cant drive it yet i already have hurricane extractors and a xforce 2.5" twin system msd coils and leads growler kit on the au but as i sed b4 the motor will eventually go in to a xc ute project i have
