Hi all.
I've got a timing issue with my EL. put another motor from another el into mine, for some reason I cant get the timing right. any ideas, motor I took out has the marking 96DA and the one I put in is 94DA, does that make any difference. cheers |

set motor to tdc moved distributor until it fired up. once going then adjusted dizzy to best idle I good get then connected wire to sti and gnd. it idled upto 11oo rpm then fell back to around 700 but motor has a bad shake. and timing light shows no mark at tdc couldn't even see it close to tdc, any suggestions. my timing light is old only connects to lead/plug. been told to get a new one, not sure what to buy. apparently there's one that connects to diag port as well as lead/plug.

Quote: it's an aftermarket print - Max Ellory. similar to Gregory's Don't think I have ever seen one. All I see around is Gregory's or Haynes manuals. Anyway, induction timing lights are the better type. Quote: and timing light shows no mark at tdc couldn't even see it close to tdc It may have a non standard balancer, but, even so, the marks should be there. Get TDC again and mark the balancer yourself with a bit of whiteout, or white paint. Are there any marks on the balancer? Other than that, one assumes you are using #1 sparking plug............ |

Quote: set motor to tdc moved distributor until it fired up Just had a thought, if you put the dizzy in properly, you shouldn't have to move it to fire up the motor. The moving of the dizzy is only for fine final adjustments. Did you get #1 to TDC, put the dist in with the rotor facing "START" and when pushed down, did the rotor face "FINISH"? If that was not done, I would suggest that you are not using the correct TDC. If the dist. doesn't mesh with the oil pump, turn the engine a bit (only say 1/8th of a turn) and the pump and dist should mesh. And then go back to TDC. and check the rotor is at "FINISH" Check also the plug leads are in their correct holes. |

[quote] have 4 of those manuals here .... covering EA-ED, EF-EL, AU series 1-3 & BA-BF. they are called Max Ellory Vehicle Repair Manuals, look in ebay. |

found the problems. no 5 injector not working correctly and 2 converter bolts loose. tightened convertor bolts and changed all injectors for new. The EL is Back on the road.
