Hi,
I've been noticing of late there has been a wet and oily patch on the ground. It was detected on a wooden board I had placed. I crept under the vehicle and noticed drops of discoloured oil on both steering hoses. I had the power steering hose replaced in November last year as well as the steering pump. I traced the leak back to the high pressure hose, it appears to come up from the part that has been crimped, that is between the metal pipe that goes into / over the rubber hose and the metal sock. Can the high pressure hose clamp be retighten? Here's couple of views of the leak found on hose. Cheers

I don't think you can crimp the high pressure hose anymore without possible creating more of a leak.
Is it still under warranty? Should take it back to where you got it fitted and let them know and hopefully they can fix it for you for free, out of warranty or not. Have you tried tightening the low pressure hose clamps? If not, try that first and clean the area up to easily pick the leak.

G'day phongus,
Ok, that rules that out then. Under warranty? It's less than 12 months old, problem is, purchased from seller on Ebay, kiss warranty goodbye. Other problem I don't have any other modes of transport where I reside. I'm sure the low pressure hose clamp is tight, but will check again and give the hoses another clean. Cheers |

The high pressure hose is prone to leak where it connects to the power steering pump. There's an O-ring seal inside the nut and that allows for hose movement. Ford used to sell a nut to fix the problem but they may be obsolete now. In the long run, it's easier to replace the whole hose.

@ Shortshift,
Yeah mate, I understand that's been the case with my other two HP hoses. This one is designed slightly different and does not have the same configuration as the original Ford HP hose where it connects to the power steering pump. The current HP hose does not have any leaks at the power steering pump, its very dry and sealed tight, no sign of any oil leak at the connection. Definite leak seen coming out from the crimped end of the hose and running back down the hose leading towards the steering rack. Definitely another HP hose replacement, far out , third time maybe lucky. Cheers |
