Good Morning Chaps,

I'm looking at bigger brakes for the ol girl, and along with increasing the rotor size as well as going larger calipers, I would change the master cylinder as well.

As it turns out, I need to get a new master cylinder as my current one is shot and I requested my mechanic to upgrade it to an AU series 1. AU1 because most people here have manged to fit this in EF/EL with no changes to the mounting holes.

However, my mechanic made a good point about ABS and it's configuration and mentioned that if you are changing calipers, rotors and eventually the master cylinder, then your emergency stopping will be affected as the computer will no longer be calibrated to determine lockup.

Therefore my question is, has anyone here upgraded their brakes and have had to re-calibrate the ABS system?

Look forward to your responses.

Thank you

AU1 master is exactly the same as is the booster as the EF/EL, you need the AUII/III master and the AUII/III Booster.

What are you looking to do to upgrade the Calipers/Rotors?

Hi SWC,

Hmm... so the AU 1 is still plastic?

Still doing research when it comes to the calipers and Rotors. But, with larger brakes, would I need a larger booster?

Cheers

Master cylinder is cast alloy on all the E series, AU and B/F series.

Are you talking about the Booster? If you are then yes the AUI is plastic and is the same booster used on the EF/EL.

AUII/III has the metal booster and also the larger master cylinder to suit the twin pot claipers.

ABS should be okay I'd guess if you retain the same pulse rings/tone wheels, as it determines it's intervention on the sensor speed/frequencies.
Having said that though I've been meaning to check the AUI and AUII/III 3 channel ABS units for their part nos to see if they are the same.
