302's with carbs are a dime a dozen.
its not often you come across a real big 1100 cube engine.

at least you will never be late for work again.

you couldn't get 500hp from a 302 and have it as a 'drivable car' though.
500hp at 7000rpm, big deal. 500hp at 2500rpm, thats something to brag about.

as for the torque, get enough tyre under the back of it and enough gears behind it and it'll make a 500hp 302 look like a toy

Hi guys - a bit late to this chat fellas, saw the lead pic online and thought i'd join in 9 years later!
I actually have one of these engines - a 477 cuber - it's been stored at a mates place for years. Picked up the block as a lost job at an engine reco place my bro used to work at and was blown away by the weird-ness of the design.
Tracked down the rest of the parts minus the crank (due to a spun big end) under some guys house, in sand! Hauled the heads,cam,clutch etc home in my ZB Fairlane at the time.

Reading through the comments, easier engine combos are obvious - and there's nothing exotic about a bus or truck engine - but when you pop the heads and realise that this thing:
*has combustion chambers in the block and flat faced heads like a chevy 409
*a lifter valley/manifold area curved just like an oldsmobile
*has skirted mains like the fe and mopar big blocks
then you begin to think that this ford lump is one of the coolest engines around.
The 477" block is larger than a 460, with 5 inch bores and 9 inch connecting rods with long pistons - have a guess at the stroke capacity of this bad boy - this thing is only 37 cubes off the 514 capacity most 460s are stretched to.
