This LTD is doing my head in keeps going into limp mode.The economy light comes on in power mode,and goes out in economy mode then the thermo fans fire up even when engine is not even at normal temperature,when the temp gauge is still at the bottom of normal area and the trans locks in 3rd gear,can't even change manually.I know speed sensor can stuff up but speedo is working fine.Have tried a really good battery,checking all wires etc... was going to try changing trans computer but that wouldn't have anything to do with thermos.The guy said he had to take the thermostat out cause it siezed and didn't put 1 back in,surely that wouldn't make a difference would it?Other than that the only thing I can think is the main ecu.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Coolant temp sensor may be faulty,i would fit a new thermostat asap,if your mechanic would send your car out of his workshop with no thermostat fitted id find a decent mechanic.
The limp home mode isn't to do with the motor afaik its an electrical fault in the trans most likely or possibly low oil level,could be a dodgy solenoid,get a diagnostic check done on the motor and box and go from there if any faults come up.

I only bought the car a week ago,his mechanic should be shot.I put a new thermostat in it today and flushed the cooling system then replaced coolant,the trans fluid is at proper level and is not a bad colour and does not smell burnt.I was going to put it up on ramps tomorrow and check sensors/senders on the trans,if not will be going somewhere to get a diagnostic scan done just seems like something electrical because of the way it clicks in and out at random times.When it is not in limp the trans changes perfectly.Is there a relay that has anything to do with trans?

Also if the economy/power switch is stuffing around could that cause it?Or the other thing Iam wondering if it's worth changing trans computer?

Is it 6 or 8 cyl?

Usually if the Econ light is on with limp mode and thermos running flat out means the trans is overheating. IIRC though the Econ light is flashing - not 100% sure there.
As you mentioned, check the trans connector plugs. Pulling the fault codes from the TCM (Trans module) wouldn't hurt either. It's near the drivers footrest - there should be some threads on here how to do that.
