Hi guys,
New to the forum - i did a search for the topic but could not find anything specific. I've recently purchased a mint condition 1999 AU S Pack sedan with the T5 manual. The car is in excellent condition with exception of the shifter boot which has a few holes in it from wear and tear. I've no clue how to remove it. My old BMW used to just pull out from some plastic tabs but I don't want to break anything. Any advice or photos would be appreciated. Cheers, Andy

I just fitted mine so its fresh in my mind, screw the knob off,the boot has a plastic retaining base glued under the vinyl boot with about 5 or 6 plastic tabs that hold it in the console, you just need to carefully pull it up till it comes off, they break easily,i broke mine.
Mine also has a couple of holes but the leather boots ive seen advertised don't let you refit the round plastic trim at the top of the boot and they end up looking crap imo. |

Cheers, Andy top view with 'stick' removed underneath pic of boot removed, showing 'clips' as mentioned before ... undo gear knob by rotating anticlockwise. using a medium flat blade screwdriver, insert under edge of boot & lever screwdriver [either by rotating it or 'pulling' blade up] under edge .. won't take much to get blade of screwdriver in & base of boot up. move around boot base levering it. job done. don't use a lot of force as you may break it. |
