Hey guys just installing my new amps and subs and decided to clean up my system a little.
Just wondering where people have mounted there crossovers for the front splits in an EL. Also on my cross overs i have a pin that i can change from: 0dB, -3dB, -6dB Just wondering what this does and what i should have it on. Thanks |

That pin is used to reduce the output level of the tweeter. I've got mine on -3db personally, but your best off trying it out and seeing were it suits you as everyuones tastes are different and your systems different to mine.
I made brackets using an old licence plate to mount my crossovers between the window (when it is wound down) and the door - outside of it. |

There are quite a few options
- In the door - Under the floor on passanger side - Behind the headunit (depending on the size) - Underneath the centre console <IMG SRC="http://pic14.picturetrail.com/VOL555/2287184/7149236/91281633.jpg">

thanks for that, i might go with under the console or passenger footwell.
Also just a few quick questions; Should i run the Ground wire from the amps back to the battery or just ground it to frame somewhere in the boot. Also Alpine reconmend using 4 or 8 gauge wiring for the subs and amp. However on the subs sometimes you have to connect two wires into the one terminal. So what do i do? use a lesser gauge wiring or is there a connector around that i could use? I have attached a picture to help show what i am trying to explain thanks again

8 gauge speaker cable from the amp to the sub? didn't know they made it that big.
I'd say to use 8 gauge power cable to the amp. as forgrounding if it's not a huge powered amp should be fine to ground to chais. just check that your battery ground is all good and that aswell and you should be fine. |

A number of SPL competitors use 8 gauge connections to subs as they are providing subs with 3,000 - 6,000rms.
In most instances it is not needed. I would just use a good quality 12 gauge speaker cable and the Alpine terminals whould be large enough to accept 2 x runs of that. The 0, -3, -6 db refers to tweeter attenuation in relation to the woofer. It is a personal preference, and normally the higher the speaker is in the car the more you may want attenuation (i.e. in the A-pillars or dash may require attenmuation) in the kickpannels may not.

hey i am looking at mounting my crossovers in the boot, is that too far from the door speakers? do i hve to keep the wiring the same length for tweeter and woofer??

No thats fine, i had mine in the boot last year. Exact wire length wont matter just run out what you need.
