Hi can anyone tell me how to dissmantle console to remove gear stick from my 2003 BA GT Falcon. I I need to remove gear lever so as to remove gear box for a clutch replacement. I have shifter boot and knob removed I need to remove the steel bracket under there that holds the rubber down around gear stick. Have removed 4 nuts under the car and 2 screws on top but I must need to remove console to get this out as it sits under the console. I dont want to go further and break any plastic or clips I am unaware of. I will add a couple pics of where I am at.

Don't pull that out. If you do pull that out, the console has to come before it. Unbolt the gearstick (2 bolts) and the little stump that's left will just pull through. It's to keep dirt out, not the box in.

OK Thanks. I will have it out this morning. The clutch slave blew so I am replacing clutch as well. It makes sense if box has to come out. New kit has a solid flywheel I have been told Original one is dual mass. Is there anything I should know about swapping these over. I am guessing there is nothing to it.

Dual mass is there to soak up a bit of harmonics/pulsing in most cases. If you modify your engine you should swap to a single solid anyway. Haven't done a conversion myself, but it should be a bolt off bolt on affair.

Just if anyone is interested It is an easy job to remove the Gearbox. As it turns out my GT has a solid mass flywheel standard. The Excedy Replacement is a steel flywheel so should be an improvement over the factory cast flywheel. The only thing that I am worried about is whether the factory flywheel is balanced to the motor. Should I have the Excedy flyweel mirror balanced to be sure. Being fussy I know but the cast flywheel does have balance holes in the back of it. Facrory flywheel is 13kg and Excedy is 11 kg 2 kilo lighter. I weighed them on bathroom scales so just rough. heres some pictures of both for anyone to look at.
