My A/C compressor clutch doesn't engage as it should when the climate control is turned on, instead it engages briefly and releases almost immediately, repeatedly. I've replaced the pressure switch, which meant I've lost my gas but the problem still exists??? Before I re-gas the system, has anyone got any suggestions as to what else I should do please. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

If it has no gas thats likely the problem. It will not engage if low on gas, let alone no gas. Surprised it even engages briefly I thought they were designed to do nothing if low on gas.

Have it leak tested before regas.

Thanks for your response Gary. I'm aware that the system requires a minimum pressure to operate properly, because I took it in to have the gas topped up when it started to "play up" as mentioned in my earlier post, but turned out the pressure was fine, this is when I had to look elsewhere and decided to replace the pressure switch. My major concern before I have the gas recharged is that I try to ensure I don't have to replace a part that will result in my losing my gas again, because as you know the re-gassing isn't cheap.

Has the system been leak tested?

Also have you looked at the wiring at the AC unit itself? Maybe the electromagnetic clutch is broken and not engaging properly. Have you checked the relay?

Someone had an issue with the AC unit as well and for them it was the TX switch. However go through the same process to see what the cause it.

In your case the TX switch is fine as you replaced it, so check the wiring and the relay. If all of those are fine, get a leak test done.

Thanks for the response Phongus, system has been leak tested, wiring checks out ok. Planning to check the clutch gap and the relay, if they're ok, I'll replace the compressor. I'll let you know how I go.
