Hello,
Couple of occasions after starting engine, engaged into R, no probs, coasted out of driveway the try to reverse up a slight hill. Reverse gear was slow to engage. This happened about 3 times over a period of 4 weeks. Two days ago. Reversed out ok, no probs but then engaged into D as I was going uphill, bugger did not engage. I went to N then engaged back into D, gave a few more revs then D engaged, had no other issues during rest of day Would anyone know what the problem could be ? Any advice is welcome |

Could also be one of the solenoids in the trans? There are 6 of them and 5 can be gotten out without taking the valve body out or, you can take the valve body out and replace them that way. The 4 speed autos had a lot of issues with these solenoids. Better off trying to buy them from Ebay if you do need them as genuine Ford are WAY too expensive. Numbers 30 and 12 are the solenoids.

Papa Smurf,
Where abouts did you get that solenoid guide from? I tried to find it but cant find it in the workshop manual I have. Last couple of days I once again experienced hesitation going into drive and also in reverse, early am on cold day. |

I did get it from a Parts manual and have good access to part numbers and pics.
I hope that they are helpful to you? |

Papa Smurf,
Yes, they were helpful but when I tried to enlarge the pic but it became pixelated and bit hard to see. Could you be able to send me a bigger one via email? |

Thanks, but I have done that, however I tried to enlarge the pic to A4 size to get a better view, that's when it became pixelated. |
