Hey Guys. Hope you can help me with this. Recently bought a 91 v8 nc Fairlane. Car is in good condition. But it stays fairly cold (just a touch over C) and the heater blows cold air. Even after a long highway cruise. I am thinking thermostat ? Is that where you would start ?
From what I can see replacing a thermostat should be a job a newbie like me can do with limited Tools. Also it doesn't really rev much but guess that is me being used to v6. Thanks ! |

Yep thermostat is the first port of call.
What do you mean by not revving much? You mean you don't have to rev it because it makes good torque?....that's typical of a 5.0L Or does it not rev out? |

Thanks for your reply.
I changed the Thermostat. The car runs warmer now. I have the feeling it goes much better as well. Maybe because it is actually running warm now? The engine revs much better as well now. The heater blows only slightly warm air though. Only if you use the front blowers. If you open anything else it gets cold. Heater core? One more thing that's causing me some headache: Rough start, especially on petrol. It's dual fuel. The previous owner mainly started on gas. Once running it switches and runs fine on both with a bit of rev. Currently trying to locate an EL air intake snorkel to replace the standard one. From what I read the EL snorkels take in more air. |

Yes it would go much better. It would've been getting too much fuel being so cold.
Did you use a stock heat thermostat? Your heater tap could be clogged up or, if it has gas, it's possible whoever plumbed up the heat pipes for the gas converter that it's adversely effected coolant flow into the tap or indeed the core itself. Injectors often get gummed up on cars running on gas. You may need to get a new set. Hows all you ignition components? Have you done an EEC self test on it? Yes EL Tickford Snorkels are better but they are hard to find now. |

I used the standard Tridon thermostat, not the high flow one.
I thought about gas plumbing as well. But I guess that is something for an expert? Or is it a DIY job as well? How about injectors? Easy to change? Leads and plugs seem ok. Apparently changed not too long ago. What's an EEC self test? There are quite a few EL at the local Jolly u pick. Wanted to get it there along with a new pair of front seats. Currently E series XR seats. Guess those are worth a few bucks as well. |

You can DIY the whole car....I do.
Injectors are easy to change. Just remove upper intake. Go to ebay and buy new ones. EEC self test is a diagnostic test. Look in the technical pages how to do it. You need the Tickford snorkel. just any old V8 snorkel is no better. |
