I changed the key barrel illuminator light on my BA XR6 today and must have broken the sensor ring/ reader coil around the key and the car now doesn't start - smartshield light just keeps flashing. I can hear all lights and stuff clicking on but 3 secs later the immobiliser hand red LED starts flashing.
I'm thinking crap ... I recall the sensor is a coil which transponds with the key chip and that thin wiring was out and must have snapped when I tried to put it together. Does anyone know where I can find this key reader or what to do. I suppose it needs to be replaced but then keys to be programmed and problem is - the previous owner only had one key. I just found a reader on ebay and I bought it...
I suppose when I get it .. I need a second key if anyone knows the process ? |

think you should have no problems with it ........ but i'm using an AU as a referance

When I get the replacement key reader - I suppose I just put that in and try and use the same key since the reader ... is just to read the key.... the recorded code would be in the BEM if correct ? |

Correct Fit your new reader and everything should Work fine. Like you assumed the key chip code is stored in the BEM module and that ring around the barrel is just a "reader"

Thanks guys. You were right. I received the key reader yesterday put this in and it worked. No reprogramming needed. Thank you again |
