I have just installed FPV seat with airbags into my BA XT.
I noticed the yellow connector is the same as the old seats but does the computer need to be programmed to allow the additional airbags?
The old seats had a connector with a loop which I have used for the time being to turn off the airbag warning light until I can verify that the airbags will work when plugged in.

i reckon you will need to have it programmed or the module changed to suit

i reckon the air bag module could be different like on the commos

Or, I dare say, the Loom to support the sensors...

Sounds like something you might have to ask Ford. Having said that they can be pretty difficult with things like this.

There is one surefire way of testing it....

I'm just finding this out now myself....

There are two types of Restraint Control Module - a Type A (Driver and Passengers Airbag) and Type B (Type A plus seat airbags).

Does anyone know if the 'Diagnostic Terminator' plugs are available to the public, or what the pinouts are?

These things are little plugs that you appear to hook into the loom sockets instead of the airbags - so you can run certain loopback diagnostic tests on the Control Module without being punched in the face by a bag.

I'm considering the addition of side airbags myself - loom, sensor, module change and all. If I gain any momentum on this I'll start a thread on it.

OK, a bit more detail. Actually, I might just stay in here for the moment eh?

I'm lmiiting this to SWB BA Sedans, as part numbers for Tilitys', LWB's and BF's are different. So here goes.

Part numbers and pricing for the RCM (Restraint Control Module) new from Ford:

Type-A

BA 14B321 A MONITOR - AIRBAG DIAGNOSTIC MODULE, WITH DRIVER AIR BAG, WITH PASS AIR BAG $281.85

Type-B

BA 14B321 B MONITOR - AIRBAG DIAGNOSTIC MODULE, 4 DOOR SDN/WAGON, WITH FRONT SIDE AIR BAG RESTRAINT & DRIVER AIR BAG & PASS AIR BAG $290.35

Wiring harnesses down the Left and Right required for Airbags:

LHS Loom Minimum option (No Premium Audio, Parking Sensors)

BA 14A005 F WIRING ASSY - MAIN, (REAR BUMPER SENSOR DEVICE WITH FRONT SIDE AIR BAG RESTRAINT WITH REAR PARKING AID OR REAR BUMPER SENSOR DEVICE WITH FRONT SIDE AIR BAG RESTRAINT WITH REAR PARKING AID MIDLINE AM/FM STEREO WITH 6 CD PLYR OR REAR BUMPER SENSOR DEVICE WI $447.80

LHS Full feature option Ghia (Premium Audio, Parking Sensors, Side Airbags):

BA 14A005 G WIRING ASSY - MAIN, GHIA $501.35

RHS Loom Minimum option - no SatNav:

BA 14405 C WIRING ASSY - REAR LAMPS, GHIA, LESS NAVIGATION SYSTEM $407.15

Or with SatNav lines:

BA 14405 G WIRING ASSY - REAR LAMPS, GHIA, WITH NAVIGATION SYSTEM $688.85

I can't find any part numbers for Side Impact Sensors. Maybe someone else can find them? I also don't know if there are any additional wiring or mounting requirements for those sensors.

I kinda hijacked this didn't I.

I'm doing something similar now - fitting BF Fairlane seats into a BA XR8, but I'm going to enable the Airbags on mine now that I've done the research.

I’m also doing a similar thing, I moving the following features from a ford Fairmont ba, like the rear sensors, traction control, electric adjustable pedals, and adding seat airbags to a ford falcon ba wagon.

This also includes changing the type a restraint module to a type b.

So if anyone wants some parts cheap I’ve got 2 friends of my working in 2 seperate wreakers.

Hers an example. Type a restraint module for ba bf $90
Type b for ba bf $120.

There heaps more but if I can be of any help let me know.
