Hi,

After some scum bag stole my laptop with XP which had FORScan installed and worked with the ELM327 OBDII connector I had, I had to purchase another OBDII connector.

The connector I purchased looks slighly different. I don't recall my first one having two plastic splade separators in the middle).

Regardless of that. I mamaged to install the updated FORScan in Windows 10, and had to play around to get the mongrel to work.

However, each time I press connect to vehicle, it tries to connect but keeps comg back "Unable to connect to vehicle. Please make sure the ignition key is on and Try again.

Done that about 15 times already, still no joy. Is the connector I have a faulty unit or is it something else. Here are pics

Hi, yeah some of the units for sale on ebay are useless! it's hard to pick out the good ones from the crap ones :?

i ended up buying a couple from a few differant sellers so i could be sure of getting a working unit. mine don't have the plastic piece shown in photo as such .... mines just one solid piece

Mad2,

I think from memory the one that was stolen from me also had no plastic in between.

Do you have a link to the one you purchased that's working?

Mad2,
That's ok, if it was purchased through ebay, they normally keep a history of items purchased.

Hi mate,
here is a link to a elm327 that works with forscan its slightly on the more expensive side as there the modded ones that do HS and MS can (more of a feature for FG onwards) via the switch on the side.
you would want to leave it in HS can mode for what your doing.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-Modifie ... SwhQhYz8Ll

same thing but bluetooth
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Diagnostic- ... SwCU1Yz7Sb

link to search
https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_fro ... n&_sacat=0

strangely every one i have got off ebay (without a switch) have worked. bit like Mad2 said some of them are useless and don't work

Nah, not feedback.

I checked with mine, they do have a purchase history, up the top of screen you have "My ebay", click on that and then another screen comes up with Purchase History on left. . its on the left side of the screen , on the right side you have a "see orders from", it only shows from present that is 2018 until 2016..

Robert_au,

Thanks mate, I'll be placing an order in, thanks for the tip about to leave in HS mode.

I assume this will work on a Windows 10 laptop?

Yes, true, I'm starting to realise that about those ELM327 OBDII connectors.

I must have purchased a working one without hiccups first time, that was stolen, then purchased another one thinking it would be the same as the one I purchased originally, sadly, not the case.

Is there any other procedures I need to do such as baud rate etc when first installing?

Thanks,
Peter

No worries at all mate, glad to be of assistance :)

i honestly cant tell you if it will work on windows 10 i still use windows 7 and dont plan on updating anytime soon, ive lost a few and misplaced a few haha they all manage to turn up after i get a new one. for some reason i preferred the usb versions over the blue tooth, my old computer didnt have bluetooth in it. i haven't purchased one of these as yet for use (i thought about modding one of my excising ones). i dont think there will be any setting of the baud rate etc when installing. from memory all the ones i have without the switch worked after installing

Hi Robert_au,

I'm not getting the blue tooth type, I too prefer the USB version.

No worries, I can always try to install it in Windows Compatable mode such as Win 8 Win 7 and XP if need be.

No worries, the original one that was stolen worked straight up, did had to enter type of car to begin with, but thats all.

The second one, (the dodgy one) required a lot of workarounds to install and then it could not detect the ELM327 OBDII cable, then for some reason I had to download NetFramework 2 and 3 ????

Soon gave that the flick.

Thanks again.
