Hey all.
I just sold me BA XR6T and got into a low-k's six-speed manual Boss 260 with probably around 300kW. LOVING it. It's had a reasonably serious aftermarket system fitted by the first owner (I'm the third owner), but a lot of the componentry has been removed. I love music, and the current system sounds godawful, so I want to try and get reasonably sound of it on a bit of a shoestring budget. What it currently has/has not got: (I've taken good clear photos of all these things but I don't know how to post or embed them in this post??) 2004 BA XR8 Standard head unit All power and earth cabling in place for a boot-mounted amp - amp is gone. Soundstream INT.2BX equaliser mounted in boot under parcel tray (where factory sub was - this has been deleted) Rear speakers are Soundstream SST5.7 5 x 7's (working) Front door speakers - unknown BUT, there is NO speaker in the driver's door. Passenger door is working. Tweeters in A-pillars are working. Subwoofer remote control beside steering wheel - connected to Soundstream equaliser in boot Heavy duty fused power cable from battery, to boot (currently disconnnected) Heavy duty earth at same place in boot (also not connected to any component). Currently the factory head unit puts sound through the speakers, but it sounds absolutely gutless. Dreadful. Like an old-school AM radio. I had an auto sparky connect everything up to see what happens: it all powers up and appears to be functioning - notwithstanding having no amp or sub. Bear in mind I know "a little" about car HiFi, but far from "a lot". I've been to three pro-shops for advice, and been given different stories by each one. Most of them lectured me like I'm an idiot, and tried to sell me things I didn't want or couldn't afford (and telling me to get rid of everything that's in there). WHAT I'D IDEALLY WANT TO DO: Keep the Soundstream equaliser, fit new front door speakers (I have some ready to install - Rockford Fosgate 5x7), fit an amp (4-channel?) and get decent sound from that set up. Then a bit further down the line, perhaps add a sub (and/or amp if required). ANY straightforward advice or tips much appreciated. Including how to post the pics I have of the set-up, which will help explain things a lot. Cheers
