Hi all, I recently invested in some new wheels but the problem I am facing is that my current lug nuts are too big and don't allow me to fit my socket in there. So I am being forced to buy new lug nuts either floating or extended ones however I have been unable to find a set answer to the thread size. Some say its 1/2" but does that translate directly into a 1.25 (m12 x 1.25)? If so would these wheel nuts be okay? http://www.gktech.com/index.php/open-en ... 0-727.html

You need 1/2 inch 20 tpi from memory.
Metric does not cross over. Somebody correct me if im'e wrong.

^^^^ This dude is right...
1/2" is bigger and stronger than 12mm... Hence Holden speedway cars push the 12mm studs out and fit Ford 1/2" studs (not bigger by much, but bigger is bigger)... I don't know the TPI (threads per inch)... But it's called 1/2" UNF... Which is "something something fine"... There is a 1/2" UNC too which is a***... They look nothing like each other... I doubt you'll buy a 1/2 UNC wheel nut... UNF is better because the pitch isn't so steep they're less likely to undo... All your seatbelt stuff is 1/2UNF too for the same reason... 1/2" is a bit hard to find as most tuner stuff is out of China or Japan and they're both completely metric... Ford is from America and hence why to this day 1/2UNF is still a semi common wheel stud size... Cheers, Tim

The problem is not that your wheel nuts are to big but that the recesses in the wheels are too small. I found this when I purchased new wheels a while back, but mine were supplied with new wheel nuts, old 21mm socket, new 19mm socket. I didn't like the way the nuts sat deep in the wheel so I tried fitting my old nuts and found that my deep socket that I usually used wouldn't fit. Grabbed a 21mm spark plug socket and all good. Try using a thinner wall socket. 1/2" UNF wheel nuts are everywhere. Not all fords are 1/2 UNF i found that while looking for sum lock nuts for my new mags Ford Focus fit the M12 x 1.25 lock nuts so it may say Ford but this doesnt include Ford AU to BF/FG so keep that in mind
Ford AU up to FG uses the 1/2 UNFwheel nuts only |
